I love that my family has stopped making a big to-do of our Christmas holiday. We spend Christmas Eve with my best friend’s family, singing off-key renditions of traditional Christmas carols such as The Eagles “Hotel California.” We sleep in the next morning, eat an amazing breakfast made by my mom and open whatever is under the tree. The rest of the day is spent reading, napping, watching DVDs and, as per the newest routine, hitting up a yoga class with some friends. We don’t rush around or stress over intricate meals. We’re keeping it simple.
Case in point: tonight we’ll watch a Harry Potter double feature following a cheese fondue dinner. This is the life. Add in the kitten that we’re getting for my mom next week and I’m set for life.
So whether you celebrate Christmas or not, take today to kick back and maybe read a good book. Nothing’s open and it’s raining outside. Embrace oversleeping, overeating, and inactivity. Listen to Justin Bieber’s new Christmas album (need an extra copy? there are now two in our house). Take a pre and post dinner nap. Mix all the bubbly, nice-smelling products you got this morning and have a long bath. Go outside and go for a walk/run/bike if that’s what you’re into. Hang out with your family, chosen or otherwise.
Have a great holiday everyone.

“Hang out with your family, chosen or otherwise.” Very inclusive of you. It’s possible to read a lot of different meanings into this…intentional? I think so.
